Since Bach first made a fugue
\nthe simplest melody of a flute
\non a hill
\nhas been looked on as poverty.
\nBut a hill is not poverty.
\nDay, daylight, the sun, seasons
\nair
\nbreathed through the flute player, sent
\ndancing through the wooden throat
\nof a finger-holed flute\u2014
\nthis is not poverty.\u00a0 Go aside
\n\u2018til you find the paradise of simplicity.
\nAsk yourselves there in that
\nkingdom of God:
\nWhat is the worth of philosophy?
\nWhat is the truth of ecosophy?<\/p>\n

It is one way
\nto have your head in the clouds like
\na sound splitting machine.
\nIt relates differently
\nto walk the earth
\ntenderly in breathing rhythms
\nand to make footprints
\nshared by butterfly and salamander
\nby red fox
\nand round eyed deer.
\nSince Heidegger explained
\nHeraclitus,
\nthe Fragments have lost the
\nverb and numen of wholeness.
\nThe way the imagination
\ngrows wingless
\nand identifies with walls
\nin a world without trees.
